Here is a non-exhaustive list of some of the most common ones:

Hip Conditions

Common hip conditions in Adelaide

Osteoarthritis

This is a degenerative joint disease that occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones in the hip joint wears down over time.

Hip fractures

These are commonly seen in older adults due to falls or accidents. There are many types of hip fractures, including femoral neck fractures and intertrochanteric fractures.

Labral tears

The labrum is a ring of cartilage that surrounds the hip socket, and tears can occur due to trauma or wear and tear.

Hip dysplasia

This is a condition in which the hip joint does not develop properly, causing the bones to be misaligned and leading to increased wear and tear on the joint.

Avascular necrosis

This is a condition in which the blood supply to the bone is disrupted, causing the bone tissue to die.

Hip dislocation

A traumatic injury to the hip can cause the bones to move out of alignment, causing a hip dislocation.

Osteonecrosis

This is a condition in which the blood supply to the bone is disrupted, causing the bone tissue to die.

Rheumatoid arthritis

This is a chronic inflammatory disorder that affects the lining of the joints, including the hip joint.

Bursitis

This is an inflammation of the bursae, small fluid-filled sacs that cushion the hip joint.

Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)

This is a condition in which the bones of the hip joint rub against each other, causing pain and damage to the joint.

Snapping hip syndrome

This is a condition in which the tendons or muscles around the hip joint snap or pop during movement.

Piriformis syndrome

This is a condition in which the piriformis muscle, located in the buttocks, compresses the sciatic nerve, causing pain and numbness in the hip and leg.

Perthes disease

This is a condition that affects children and causes the femoral head (the ball-shaped end of the thigh bone) to become flattened, leading to pain and stiffness.
